After the horrific storms Katrina and Rita in 2005, the State of Louisiana started the Road Home program to distribute money to homeowners whose homes were affected by the storms. However, now the State is suing them back under the guise that the funds were misused. Recently, Pro-Publica published an article that what has been happening to these victims:

“The state is relying on people to not fight back,” said attorney Shermin Khan, who represents more than 50 homeowners. “They’re having their wealth stolen from them. Their only equity.”
