"For over 70 years, the development of the United States Interstate Highway System under President Eisenhower transformed the nation into being completely dependent on interstate highways for travel and commerce. While it is indisputable that interstates have brought countless benefits to the U.S., there is a dark side to its existence. During its planning and subsequent construction, highways cut through historically African American neighborhoods of municipalities across the country. This is significant to the public interest of current times due to the lasting effects of the decimation of African American neighborhoods emerging in conversations recently."
